A step closer to reality XD All right, all right...

This is a real time model i wanted to build based on the character Belldandy, from Ah My Goddess the Motion Picture.

The character itself was taken from another project of mine, a "generic" female character for a MMORPG i'm collaborating with, and modified her, designed a new texture (an incompatible one, though, as i redesigned the UV Mapping...), and added details, so, i could build Belldandy.

The usage of the texture maps is not exactly a low budget one, as the amount of textures used suggests, although, i tried to keep it low, perhaps, the cape and the blue dress are simetrically done.

Also, some jewllery along the model is there, is modelled and textured into more pieces to the model, at the end, it resulted a very "lightweighted" model in the meaning of face count (just 2716 polygons) although the staff could use a bit less of detail, but i'm happy with it.

Rendered: MAX 4.0 Default scanline + fog + ambient light +1 omnidirectional light

Beautifully textured model for only 2716 tris! That's amazing considering she has all fingers! I would love to rig her for Poser and create some animations like the ones you can see from my gallery. ^^ Great job!

In fact, i think now that it is a bit outdated, as i've done even better stuff with less resources, is my philosophy, make things looking like you can see them in a P IV class and use only the resources of a 8086 XDDDDDD (this is exagerating, of course) but if you're capable of getting quality without using too much resources, then, you can get ANYTHING.

I believe the same thing about lowpoly models, except that philosophy doesn't work with Poser because of the way models are rigged for generic animations. I once tried to remodel an Anime head to a third of the poly count using only the bare essential geometry. As a result, the facial expressions lost considerable quality, because those require much heavier geometry for subtle results - especially around lips and eyes. In my personal experience with my Usajiro bunny for Poser, his 4000 faces cause some limitations on what he can do and still look well rounded during animations. His set of 200 controls for facial animations is also limited by the lowpoly approach. As you can see from my gallery, Usajiro is capable of a wide variety of facial expressions, but it could be better if he had more head geometry. But I am glad enough he is lowpoly enough to be used in any realtime game engines (such as Torque) without any changes. ^^
